Available Supplemental Hormones
- Progesterone. Used in miconized form for absorbtion. Metabolized to allopregnanolone and Hydroxyprenanolone, when taken orally, with useful sedative and anti anxiety effects for Sleep.
- Pregnenolone. Can be metabolized to all other steroid hormones but is unpredictable in effects.
- Estrogens
- Estrone (E1)
- Estradiol (E2) aka 17-beta estradiol (the most potent estrogen; 10x vs. E1 and 25x vs. E3)
- Estriol (E3)
- Testosterone (T). Metabolized to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and then Androstenidione.
- Dihydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). An adrenal androgen, both important for men and women.
- Cortisol. From the Adrenal gland. Rx is called hydrocortisone or Cortef (brand name).
- Thyroid Hormones. T4 is converted to T3, the active hormone, once released from the thyroid.
- Thyroxine (T4)
- Tri-iodothyronine (T3)
- Human growth hormone (HGH). Injectable only. Measured as Insulin Growth Factor (IGF-1)
- Vitamin D3
- Vitamin D3 is a pro-hormone (cholecalciferol) and is metabolized to calcitriol, the active hormone. Vit.D2 (ergocalciferol) is vegetable derived and D3 comes from lanolin. Both D2 and D3 are metabolized first to 25-hydroxyvitaminD: 25(OH)D in the liver and then to the active hormone 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D: 1,25(OH)2D in the kidneys, aka calcitriol.
- Melatonin. From the brain pineal gland.
- Insulin.From the Pancreases.
- Oxytocin. From the brain pituitary gland.
